Body of missing Marion County woman found Monday after intensive search

A search-and-rescue effort in Marion County came to a tragic end Monday evening.

Marion County Emergency Management officials told WDAM 7 that a 62-year-old woman who was declared missing Saturday was found dead Monday.

Officials said Catherine Ann Martin was found in a wooded area near her home on Fire Tower Road in the Pine Burr community.

The body was discovered about 4:30 p.m. Monday after a nearly 50-hour search, officials said.

Search-and-rescue teams from agencies across the state as well as units from Louisiana combed through a nearly 2-mile circle of woods, creeks and steep drop-offs Monday, officials said.

Sunday, the search had included drones, helicopters and nearly 70 volunteers in difficult windy, wet and cold conditions.

Monday, a search dog turned up the first signs of the missing woman before a team of first responders went in on foot.

Law enforcement continued to work to secure the scene as darkness fell Monday.

Marion County Emergency Management officials said that Martin went missing from her home on Fire Tower Road about 3 p.m. Saturday.
